Dorothy Gale had to go over the rainbow to Oz to discover there’s no place like home. Erin and Chris didn’t need to go as far. They found their dream home in Milwood and with ECCU’s help are now settling in with their newborn son, Lincoln.
“Chris is the practical one. I was the dreamer, always looking online for a house that might suit us,” Erin says. “I did a lot of research and we went to many open houses.” One of the open houses was across the street from a house that seemed just right. “That house was too small, and we told the agent we were really interested in the one across the street, ” Erin says, “Within 48 hours we had a showing. When I walked in the front door, I knew we had to buy it.”
“I saw it as a place to raise a family, to establish family traditions,” Erin recalls. Chris agreed, but as first-time home buyers they were somewhat apprehensive. Erin’s parents agreed to take a look at it, and both concurred: it was the right house.
“We had a friend who had used ECCU to refinance his house,” Erin says, “and he recommended it not only for good rates, but excellent service.” So the Praedels joined the credit union and worked with Laurie Brooks, loan origination officer, to secure a pre-approval. “Laurie was incredible,” Erin says. “She was so available to answer all of our questions by email or on the phone. And she was so reassuring.” The Praedels chose ECCU’s 3% down, biweekly mortgage program.
Our members may not know the ins and outs of mortgages, so I make sure that they understand everything before signing documents. I really enjoy helping members with one of the most important purchases of their lives.”
The Praedels have no immediate plans to leave their dream home, but if they do buy another house, they would “absolutely go back to ECCU to finance it,” Erin says. “The people there are so attentive and supportive, and we feel they are always looking out for our best interest. We appreciate that the credit union is local and shares community values.”
